This Weeks Auction: Gillis lundgren “Pixi” chair by IKEA. Two years ago, I visited the IKEA city Älmhult in Sweden. It is where the IKEA HQ is, along with the IKEA hotel and IKEA museum. Unfortunately I did not have time to see the museum, so I hope I get to see that another time.

GILLIS LUNDGREN, 6 st, Öglan, stolar, IKEA 1900-talets slut, svart lackerade, märkta IKEA undertill, sitthöjd ca 45 Gillis Lundgren, an industrial designer who helped make Ikea the largest furniture retailer in the world with his no-frills designs, most notably the Billy bookcase that millions of frugal book Gillis Lundgren is the new head of advertising, but has got into product development. The Ägget chair is one of this first furniture designs. It will be followed by a hundred more. Fyra stolar och en pall i formgjuten plast, designade av Gillis Lundgren för Ikea efter Thonets klassika stol no 18. Två vita stolar och två mintgröna samt mintgrön pall. Mindre ytslitage och repor men annars i fint skick.

The 1956 IKEA catalogue, motif by Gillis Lundgren. Gillis was employed to work on the catalogue, but then became a designer and the first product development manager at IKEA. When the very first IKEA catalogue was issued, no-one could have had any idea that our catalogues would become one of the most widely distributed publications in the world.

Only sold in 1972. Gillis Lundgren (1929 – 2016) was a Swedish furniture designer, born in Lund, in southern Sweden, in 1929. This "Eker" design armchair was designed by Gillis Lundgren for IKEA.
